Namilco
expands capacity to package flour
STABROEK NEWS. June 2002
The
National Milling Company of Guyana Inc. (Namilco) at Eccles, East
Bank Demerara has expanded its capacity to supply consumers with
hygienically packaged and labeled flour with the acquisition of
a "Discovery Packer" machine from Columbia.
According to a pres release from Namilco, the recently installed
machine is in full production and has the capacity to produce
40 one-kilogramme or 3- two-kg packets of flour per minute.
The
company had purchased a packaging machine in December 1999 after
a survey showed that consumers, shopkeepers and supermarkets would
refer hygienically packaged and properly labeled flour over hand
-packed flour in plain paper or plastic bags, the release said.
Ten "Thunderbolt", Maid Marian Roti Mix", and "Self
Rising Flours", ere packaged and Namilco ad anticipated that
the machine would pack 20% of its production but that target was
quickly achieved and the company for the various products, so
another packaging machine ad to be secured.
The release noted that all the company's products were packaged
mechanically and were untouched by hand.
Namilco pointed out also that the little pinhole in the bag was
to let air out and material could enter the packet.
The release added that the company had a return policy and its
products were guaranteed fresh with a "best before date"
of three months from the date of production.
Namilco installs lights on Eccles Old Road
April 2002
Namilco has done it again!! GPL was contracted to install lights
along the roadway leading to the Flour Mill.
As
a follow up to our press release on December 17th 2001, when we
announced the asphalting of the road by Namilco and our pledge
to beautify the environment. Namilco contracted GPL to install
lights along the Old Road. This area is very dark in the nights
and thieves would use the cover of darkness and the bushes to
pounce on employees going home from the night shift and on other
persons using the road. Namilco has undertaken to pay for the
electricity consumed and has lodged two months deposit with GPL.
Namilco
ensures the sides of the road are kept clear of bushes and with
the lights, it is now reasonably safe to walk after dark. However
persons continue to dump garbage at the side of the road and we
are appealing to residents to be proud of the environment and
desist from this practice. Signs have been placed but these are
ignored.
Namilco's
decision to install the lights is in keeping with its role of
being a responsible Corporate citizen and in the interest of the
Community and its employees.
We
again invite the press to visit the area at their convenience
and to stop by at the mill to get an update on our Expansion Plans.
Namilco
Recognised by Guyana Manufactures Association (GMA)
Namilco
was again the recipient of another award, at a dinner presentation
at the Le Meridian on September 21st, 2001, Namilco's Managing
Director, Don Franke, received the award on behalf of the company
from Opposition Leader, Mr. Desmond Hoyte.
The Award was "In recognition of ongoing improvement in plant
and machinery enabling the company to produce hygienically and
to an international standard...".
